To fully describe My K
Coffee we must know a little coffee history. It is believed that before
1000 A.D the Galla tribe in Ethiopia found a certain berry that
would give them and energy boost. They would grind them up and
mix it with animal fat. After 1000 A.D Arab traders would bring
these berries back and boiled them to create a drink the called
“qahwa.” “Qahwa” continued to spread throughout the known world.

Eventually Captain John Smith
finds America and it is believed he introduced coffee to the “New
World”. In 1672 the first coffee house opens in Paris. About 20
years later Franz Georg Kolschitzky began filtering the grounds,
sweetening, and adding milk to coffee. He opened the first coffee
house in Central Europe. sitemap.xml
In 1690 the Dutch become the
first to transport and cultivate coffee commercially in Ceylon and
in their East Indian colony “Java”, source of the nickname. In 1773
the Boston Tea Party made coffee popular in America.
Then in 1886 former grocer Joel
Cheek names his coffee brew “Maxwell House” after the Tennessee
hotel where it is served. In 1900 the local coffee mills and
roasting shops when Hills Bros. began packaging coffee in vacuum
coffee tins. A year later the Japanese-American chemist Satori Kato
creates the first soluble instant coffee.
In 1903 German scientists
perfected removing caffeine from coffee to create “de-caf”. Ludwig
Roselius, a German importer, markets de-caf under the brand name “Saka”.
Prohibition then starts in 1920
causing coffee sales to sky rocket. In 1940 the United States
becomes the largest importer of coffee, importing 70% of the world’s
coffee supply.
1946 Achilles Gaggia perfects
his espresso machine and creates the world’s first cappuccino. He
names the drink after its color which resembles the color of the
robes of the Capuchin Monks. In 1971 Starbucks opens its first store
in Seattle’s Pike Place public market, revolutionizing fresh roasted
coffee and was the start of My K Coffee.
